Gardens, trails, and seasonal features

The garden brings together heritage plantings, a children’s area, camellias, and river-side trails. The NC Heritage Garden reflects the 1800s, while the Children’s Garden offers an interactive area for younger visitors.

The camellia garden was established in 1997 and includes more than 100 varieties, including rare species. It is part of the American Camellia Trail. For a change of scenery, the Cape Fear River Trail and Overlook connect the garden visit with views toward the river.

Trail surfaces vary: expect paved areas, crushed stone, mulch, packed earth, and occasional tree roots. Woodland, river, and overlook trails can be affected by weather and natural terrain, so ask the garden about access if a particular route matters to your plans.
